The saint wears his Franciscan habit. At his feet are two poor persons representing the many he assisted. Behind him are objects related to the contemplative life: books, lilies symbolizing chastity, and a skull and hourglass referencing the impermanence of this life. In Mexican santos, the saint is often shown holding a skull.
